#1-0: Commish's Recap

Nobody said being a hogs fan was easy and Saturday's heat made sure it wasn't. It's all good though because I got to see the game from the best seats in the house.

Things that caught my eye:

- In the first half our D-line got pushed around. Makes me nervous to go up against an SEC O-line. If I were going to play against us I would run the read option all day long. We can't stop it. Or a quick hitch/WR screen. Also, our LBs can't cover a tight end. I'm pretty sure ULL ran the tight end drag every time they needed 4 yards and they got it.

+ Zack Hocker has a monster leg. That's huge to not give the opponent a chance to return the ball on kickoffs. Bielema said after the game Hocker wasn't fully healthy. Going to be vital he gets full strength.

+ Run game. Run game. Run game. Also, Nate Holmes definitely clipped on the Jwill 75 yard td run. Wasn't necessary bc he was going to score regardless so I don't want to take away from him. Just can't let mental errors like this cost us in the future. Because something like that can turn a whole game around.

-ULL wasn't very good. Broadway was errant on many a throw and didn't see wide open TDs on 2 plays I know of for sure. Missed an early chip shot field goal. We were bigger and pushed them around and wore them out.

+ Hunter Henry is the real deal. It's so hard to believe this kid is only a freshman. He's going to be scary good. Although he had a fumble and a third down drop, he proved he's going to be a playmaker. I can't wait to see him every single game. Probably my favorite player. Don't sleep on Jeremy Sprinkle and Keon Hatcher either. I'm no longer worried about offensive firepower. We're definitely not a one dimensional team like some feared. Kiero Small looked real good catching the ball out of the backfield. Truck city. Brandon Allen spins it well. Nice deep ball and put the ball on the money through some tight windows. Could've done without the throw across his body into the endzone.

+ Amoeba D on 3rd down. Like it. Love it. Coach Ash installed it for teams with mobile QBs. The idea is there are no true DTs and allows for faster players to chase the quarterback if he tries to scramble. Loved that we brought pressure and since Chris Smith was double teamed all day it was only a matter of time before Trey Flowers started wreaking havoc.

I haven't had a feeling like this after a hogs game in over a year. It feels like we have hope. But we can't get content. Arkansas is the only team in the SEC to play 8 straight without a bye. And that last game of the stretch is on the road versus two time defending national championship powerhouse Alabama. While we're not where we want to ultimately be I'm pretty excited about what I saw and the potential we have over Coach B's tenure.
